Business Development Manager

Our client is a market leading digital publishing business, with an impressive reputation across its portfolio of highly specialist scientific journals. Due to continued expansion, the business is looking for an ambitious and experienced Business Development Manager.

As BDM, will be responsible for exceeding monthly revenue commitments and quarterly targets by proactively sourcing new business prospects, as well as opening and closing new business, specifically for advertising and sponsorship sales, for two key publications within the business portfolio.



  • Calling warm leads generated by Marketing, as well as soliciting new referrals
  • Execute territory sales plan to achieve revenue targets
  • Prospect, open and convert potential and existing clients within target market
  • Conduct pre-call / prospecting research & analysis to optimize each sales call
  • Target and sell electronic and print advertising and sponsorship opportunities
  • Target existing accounts to identify up-sell opportunities of additional product
  • Target dormant customers for win back opportunities
  • Cold call new prospects and target existing customers for up-sell opportunities
  • Contribute fully to the business objectives to achieve monthly objectives 
  • Manage client contract negotiations inclusive of product selections, pricing and terms
  • Ensure MD is updated and informed of pipeline development and opportunities
  • Meet the required KPIs on a weekly and monthly basis



  • Ideally 1-3 years of experience in B2B media / ads sales
  • Highly competitive and results-driven
  • Self-starter; self-driven
  • Undergraduate degree in science (desirable, but not essential)
  • Capable and comfortable challenging the status quo
  • Powerful verbal and written communication
  • Thrive in fast-paced and changing environment
  • Passionate, positive and enthusiastic
  • Outgoing, confident and engaging
  • Self-critical and capable of handling rejection
  • Able to take-on-board constructive advice and criticism  


Salary & benefits

  • Salary to £36K,  £48k OTE
  • Vibrant, central London office location
